This blue vase carries the model number 1472 and was made by renowned Finnish glass house Riihimaki. It was designed by Tamara Aladin in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It is 20cm tall and in good vintage condition.
Riihimaki Riihimaen Lasi glassworks takes its name from the town in the south of Finland where it was located, 70km north of the capital, Helsinki. It was founded in 1910, became the largest glass makers in Finland in 1927 and employed the first of its ‘big four’ iconic designers, Aimo Okkolin in 1937.
It is a handmade, vintage item and has some minor signs of usage commensurate with its age such as slight scuffing, particularly on the base, and minor imperfections such as air bubbles which are typical of handmade pieces and therefore part of their charm and uniqueness, but it has no major scratches, cracks, chips or dints. It will make an absolutely stunning display piece either on its own or with other items.
